飛躍的に英語力が向上！シキホールの人々と生涯の絆も築けました

こんにちは、ルーカスです。23歳です
スペインでは英語科目は落第点だったので、何とかしなければいけないと思っていました。
高校を卒業するには、通年の英語科目の再履修が必要だったんです。
どうしても単位が必要だったので、英語を習いに行くことに決めました。

Hi, I'm Lucas. I'm 23 years old.
I was failing in my English subject back in Spain, so I needed to improve. I needed to retake my English subjects all year to be able to graduate high school.
I needed to succeed in my subject, so.. I went out to learn English.

• シキホール島を選んだ理由は？

  Why did you choose Siquijor?

  シキホール島を選んだのは理由があって…
  以前アイルランドに留学していたのですが、あまり居心地がよくなかったんです。
  とにかく寒くて、厳しい環境でした。物価もとても高いし…。
  インターネットを見てみると、たくさんの人が英語を学ぶためにフィリピンに来ていることがわかったんです。
  それから家族と相談して、シキホール島に3ヶ月間語学留学することに決めました。
  素晴らしい経験になりましたよ！

  I chose Siquijor because I was studying in Ireland, but I didn't feel very comfortable.
  It was very cold, the environment was pretty agressive, everything was very expensive and looking through the internet, I realize there were many people coming to the Philippines to learn English,
  So I talked with my family and we decided to come here for 3 months to study English.
  And it was one of the best experiences in my life.

• シキホール島へ来る前の英語力は？

  How was your English before coming to the island?

  びっくりするくらいひどかったんです…。
  英語の成績は3点か2点といったところでした。
  シキホール島からスペインに戻ってからは、高校で７や８といった高いグレードを獲得することができましたよ。
  3ヶ月という短い期間で、色んなことが改善されて英語が上達しました。

  My English was so bad, really really bad. I used to have like three or two marks in my English subject.
  But after I came from Siquijor to Spain again, I started having like 7 and 8 grade in English subject in High school.
  So, in a very little time, I improved and was able to improve a lot.

• シキホール島で学ぶことの利点は何ですか？

  What are the best things about learning in Siquijor?

  リラックスできる快適な環境で英語を学べるところです。
  ヨーロッパでは英語のレベルが低いと笑われることが多いんです。
  そういう環境だと、英語で話すことが恥ずかしくなってしまうから、なかなか上達しません。
  それに、大勢の人の前で話すのも勇気が必要ですよね…
  でもシキホール島では個別クラスで、好きなことに焦点を当てた授業を用意してくれます。
  そういった快適な環境が整っているから、英語を話したり書いたりすることがどんどん上達して、英語を学ぶ楽しさを感じることができるんですね。
  英語だけじゃなくて、人生において大事なことを学ぶこともできます。

  For me, the best thing about learning English in Siquijor is the very relaxing and comfortable space.
  Normally, in Europe, they laugh at your level in English.
  It is very difficult for you to improve because you are very shy.
  And it is very embarrassing for you to talk in English in front of a lot of people.
  But here, you have like very individual classes and they prepare the classes focusing on the things you like.
  They help you improve to talk and write in English in very familiar ways making learning English fun.
  And something for your skill, which is very important for your life.

• シキホール島で直面した課題は何でしたか？

  What were the challenges you encountered on the island?

  特に苦労はありませんでした。
  先生方がシンプルでわかりやすい授業を組んでくれましたし、とても快適に過ごせました。
  滞在中は英語を学ぶことがとても楽しかったです。
  スペインでは30名ほどのクラスで授業を受けていました。
  でもここでは、先生と一緒にビーチやプールで歩きながら、英語を話しています。間違えた時は、英語の正しい使い方を教えてもらうこともできます。
  シキホール島は、英語学習に最適だと思います。

  I didn't have any challenges in Siquijor, everything was so easy. The teachers made the lessons very simple and easy.
  So it was very easy and fun to learn English.
  You learn in my class (in Spain) with 30 people but here, you are just by your own maybe walking on the beach, or on the swimming pool, speaking English and having someone who corrects the mistakes that you make while you talk or when you write.
  I didn't really find any challenges to learn English here in Siquijor.

• 同い年で英語が母国語でないヨーロッパの方に、SLAcademyをおすすめしますか？

  Would you recommend Slacademy to non-English speaking Europeans your age?

  多くの方が英語を勉強しにシキホール島に訪れていますし、私自身良さを体感していますから、ぜひお勧めしたいですね！
  ここは物価も安くて滞在しやすいし、周りの人と良いつながりを持てるので、英語を話せない友人たちも気楽に来ることができると思います。
  本当にお勧めだし、すでにシキホール島に来たことがある人も、同じ気持ちだと思いますよ！

  Yeah, i would recommend to a lot of people of my age to come here. I already did, and a lot of people already came here. For that, I have a lot of friends in Spain who don't speak English and I think, for us to come here, is easier because it’s cheaper and we have better connection with people here.
  So yeah for sure, I would recommend it to people, and I think that people who already came would recommend it too.

• これからSLAcademyで英語を学ぶ方々に向けて、何かメッセージはありますか？

  What message do you have for the future English learners of SLAcademy?

  SLAcademy のみなさん、滞在期間は短いかもしれないけれど、シキホール島へ訪れたらしっかり楽しんでください。
  たった3ヶ月でも、すぐにまた行きたくなってしまうと思いますし、とても良い思い出になりますよ！のんびり楽しみましょう！

  My message for the future students of SLAcademy, they should take their time and enjoy to be here because it's going to be a really short time.
  Even if they spend three months there, they are going to miss it for sure, and they are going to remember all the memories. take it easy and enjoy the island.
